2008-05-31 Watch with Kristin - Caprica Pilot Script Read-Through: T-Minus 51 Years to Colonial Kablooey

Poor Zoe replicants. Such creatures are always doomed. The only doll-made-real that ever came to any good was the Velveteen Rabbit, and even that story is depressing as all get out if you read between the lines. Tip to the toymakers: Souls, like batteries, should not be included with childrens playthings - they corrode inside the product and ruin everything. (And dont bother bringing up Pinocchio. Pinocchio was a little creep. )

The little boy, a lead character in "The Velveteen Rabbit," develops a special bond with his new toy. Producer Landis Smith says the rabbit is played by three different puppets as it becomes worn and tattered throughout the story.

The touring companys musical stage adaptation of "The Velveteen Rabbit" arrives at the Performing Arts Center of Wenatchee on Saturday as part of the Van Doren Sales series of family-friendly theater productions.

2008-04-05 OPINION Blog The Dallas Morning News

Emily Bazelon - Kids anthropomorphizing of stuffed animals is harmless, isnt it Or even sweetly helpful, because it prods them to form attachments and play make-believe But what happens when the stuffed rabbit or bear gets lost, eaten by the dog or dropped out the car window Enter Webkinz -- the stuffed animal whose soul lives online. Its a trade-off: the beauty of instant replacement for the demands of online upkeep. Im not sure where I come out. But I love the idea that even as Webkinz wreaks new havoc, the latest naked marketing ploy can at least kill off the false appeal of other stuffed animals. Sorry, Velveteen Rabbit, but that kid was better off with you in the trash heap.
