2009-01-06 Bookslut Me and Eric Blair Down by the Schoolyard

Soothing. He would be the first to admit it, and he disliked saints (not their martyrdom, but their venerators. ) But whatever his flaws, his contradictions, his saddening missteps, his wrong ideas, he and rsquo;s always tougher on himself than he is on his reader. And reading him, circa the winter days of 2008-2009, this frighteningly late moment in the history of the human world, might be the only way for a thirty-four-year-old to get that and ldquo;I can read. and rdquo; feeling again, that sense that a book is a new, magical thing, and you know the secret of how to use it, like pulling rabbits out of thin air without any sleight of hand, like X-ray vision, like finally uncovering those elves in the moss.

2009-01-06 Web 2. 0 is Undead

While the future will see a shift back towards expert opinions in some areas, the social and community aspects of the web will continue to thrive. In some instances, like getting medical advice or PC support, an expert opinion is far better than wading through a community of voices. But there are many areas where the community opinion can trump the expert opinion -- like movie, book and game reviews -- areas where personal taste has more to do with it than expertise.

2009-01-04 Houston - Hair Balls - Blog On Blog: The Skylines Ryan Clark

Blogs are just - its vanity and maybe I want to talk about the idea, maybe Im fascinated by the fact that "The Charge of the Light Brigade" is a poem about the first total war where the industry and the economy were more involved in warfare, more than any conflict before that and it also happened to be a war where people started wearing these things called "balaclavas" which actually happens to be the name of a local band. I think thats funny and ridiculous and I just like going down rabbit holes like that.

2009-01-01 Film review: Australia - New Zealands source for entertainment news, gossip and music, movie and book reviews on Stuff. co. nz

Were you watching the film. did you doze off. or did read other reviews and made up this one without watching the movie. you seriously need to re-read what you have written because alot of it a load of crap. baz did not over do the computer generated imagery because he did not you alot of it. Another thing there is nothing wrong with the acting. this movie is not offensive to australians how could it be. the nasty characters(3 or 4 hmmm not all) in this movie serve a purpose and baz lurthman was jutifying what its like how its in the movie is how it is in real life. all on all its a great movie it had everything and 1 star out of five is a low judgement i say 4 stars out of 5

2009-01-01 META NAME=page_summary CONTENT="Andrew Farago reviews four short films

Shows us a typical day in a typical American office. that happens to be staffed entirely by rabbits. Theyre rewarded with carrot-shaped achievement trophies and motivated by literal and figurative carrots dangling just out of reach, which, really, isnt all that different than any other office set-up. The day-to-day perplexities of office culture reduce adults to grade school behavior, from petty feuds to lunchroom politics to one of the most basic issues of human interaction: "Move your feet, lose your seat. He would certainly not have wished his wife or servants to read that. It is an astonishing and beautiful book, perhaps Updikes best, although most would go for the Rabbit novels, those portraits of middle America that spend a considerable amount of time outside the bedroom.
