At just over 14 human years old Brownie, just like me, is still getting around pretty good. She cant see very well, I now have bi-focals. Her hearing is pretty well shot. My wife claims I have selective hearing, especially when watching the Outdoor Channel. The other morning I left Brownie out to do her thing, and a rabbit watched her with little concern. Brownie accidentally walked toward the rabbit, who still showed no concern. Finally, at about 10 feet, Brownies blurry vision noticed a brown spot in the yard.

In addition to its value to the family, the United States Navy and Churchill County, the ranch provides important benefits to native wildlife. At the entirely empty pebble beach at Porthygwichiaid we turned inland, sending more rabbits scurrying on their way. In this sharp lighting the great limestone bulk of the Great Orme seemed but a stones throw distant. These north-eastern slopes are not the best pasturage, it is close-cropped by the free-ranging sheep and punctuated by statuesque thistles and thorn thickets encircled by spreading colonies of bracken. Everywhere seems undermined by rabbit warrens.
After the up-and-down traversing of these rocky ribs we climbed by tiny sheep paths through bracken where rabbits dashed about. Out on the tranquil sea a handful of speedboats and jet skis carved white trails across the blue; we heard the conversation of a group of sea anglers moored offshore; otherwise there was no one, only the occasional calls of oystercatcher and curlew broke the midday silence.
